LiLo's Sexy Waves

lohan-wavy-hairLindsay Lohan is nothing if not versatile…at least when it comes to her look! She has worn her hair in a range of colors (including red, blonde and black) and styles, from stick straight to wavy. If you want to copy LiLo’s sexy waves, as seen here at a red carpet event, read on.

You can actually get this look fairly easily using a 2 inch curling iron. Curling irons with bigger barrels are better for creating loose waves, rather than tight curls. Take your 2 inch curling iron all the way from your roots to the very bottom of your hair and use your wrist to curve the iron. Don’t make outright curls, just soft waves.

When you’re done styling, make sure to add a little hair spray to the look. You shouldn’t need to use too much because you’re creating waves, not super tight curls. Waves hold a lot better throughout the day than actual curls. Also, you might want to consider using a ceramic iron as opposed to a metal one as they do less damage to your hair. Now you’re ready to break some hearts, just like Lindsay!

How to get sexy summertime bedhead

2-inch-curling-ironCreating volume and perfectly imperfect waves in your hair is easy when you have a two inch curling iron in your hair arsenal.  The large barrel gives you the power that you need to play around with your style and invoke that sexy version of bedhead - perfect for the summertime.

To help your hair maintain that extra oomph, use your favorite volumizing mousse on your damp hair. Work the mousse through evenly and then blow your hair dry.  Once it is completely dry, divide your hair into one and two inch sections all over.  This will give your hair that edgy, slightly messy curl.  Wrap the sections around the 2 inch barrel and hold for five seconds.  Repeat all over until every section has gotten a little love.  Spray your hair with a strong hair spray and then let it set for about thirty minutes.  Put on your makeup, get dressed, walk the dog - you know, do what you got to do.  Once your hair has set in its perfectly coiffed curls for a half hour, go ahead and start finger combing through the curls just to loosen them up and get a little casual.  If you want to really pump up the volume and lose the curl, brush through with a paddle brush.  Whichever look you’re going for, you’re bound to get some attention!

Elle's Beautiful Waves for the Summer

2-inch-curling-ironThe opening of the Louis Vuitton Bond Street Maison brought out some lovely frocks and lovely ladies but what captured my eye the most was Elle Macpherson’s lovely locks.   This is exactly the kind of hairstyle I’m going to be replicating all summer long.  My hair has finally grown out to about the same length so it is time to start experimenting.  And this style looks carefree and effortless - perfect for nights on the town after days at the beach.  I know better than that though.  A little bit of effort went into obtaining this hairstyle and I know just the tool to make it happen:  a 2 Inch Curling Iron.  A curling iron with a 2 inch barrel will give me exactly the right amount of volume and curl.  I’ll take my time and do the style in sections.  I usually start with my bottom layers and then work my way out.  Once I get all of the layers curled just right, I’ll put a little anti-frizz product on my hands and then finger-comb the curls out so they get that “effortless” look.  I can’t wait to give this style a try and put my 2 inch curling iron to work.  It has been a while since my hair has been long enough to handle the 2 inch!

Zoe Saldana's Bohemian Bedhead

zoe-saldanaZoe Saldana’s look has ranged from sleek sophistication to glamour girl to relaxed, beachy casual, and nothing sums up the look quite like a head full of sexy waves like the one she’s sporting in this photo. The style is a little bit boho, a little bit bedhead, and totally easy to duplicate on your own hair! All you need is hair that is at least shoulder-length, a good texturizing product and a 2 inch curling iron.

Start by drying your hair completely; using heat styling tools on hair that is still wet could lead to serious damage to the sensitive hair shaft, and that could mean frizziness or even breakage. Next, work a texturizing product - like a spray or cream - into your hair to give it some body and help it hold the wave better. Divide your hair into manageable sections and wrap each section around the barrel of your 2 inch curling iron. It’s not necessary to actually clamp down on each section; many stylists prefer to simply wrap the hair around the barrel by hand and then let the pieces fall where they may. After you’ve covered your entire head, rake your fingers through your loose curls to turn them into sexy, devil-may-care waves like Zoe’s. If you need some extra hold, you can finish with a lightweight hairspray.

Finger part your hair down the middle for a sophisticated take on “hippie hair,” or add a pretty clip or feathered accessory for visual interest. This look is perfect for a casual date!

Get Lucy Liu's Awesome Body...with a Curling Iron!

lucy-liuLucy Liu is known for her awesome body - and I happen to know how you can get that body yourself by spending just a few minutes with a 2 inch curling iron! No, it’s not a crazy new exercise program…it’s a hair styling secret! Check out this picture of Lucy rocking her amazing mane of wavy, voluminous hair. Yes, I’m talking about THAT body! All you have to do is grab a large-barreled curling iron; I love my 2″ iron, it definitely gets the job done. Many Asian women have a hard time curling their hair because it’s usually very thick, or very fine, and neither type holds the curl particularly well. Still, Lucy proves that it’s definitely not an impossibility for Asian ladies to have gorgeous waves! First, make sure you have the right tools. A ceramic curling iron is a better choice than a metal one because it will heat faster and more evenly, and it won’t fry your hair. Make sure your hair is totally dry before you start curling, and prep with a protective serum beforehand to coat the hair shaft and prevent frizz. Then start curling by dividing hair into smaller sections, wrapping them around the barrel of your 2 inch iron (without clamping down) for a few seconds, and releasing. Set with a spray for great hold. If you love Lucy’s look, you will be thrilled with this technique.

Emily Blunt Makes Waves

Emily Blunt has gorgeous hair!

Emily Blunt has gorgeous hair!

Emily Blunt is having quite the year, isn’t she? First of all, she recently got engaged to John Krasinski, who plays Jim Halpert on “The Office,” and how cute is he? (Of course, that happened last year, but bear with me!) And now, after a rather lengthy delay, the remake of “The Wolfman,” starring Emily and Benicio Del Toro as the titular shapeshifter, is finally coming to theaters. I can’t be the only one who’s incredibly curious about how Universal is planning revamp one of their most famous movie monsters - and I also doubt that I’m the only one who’s recently started taking notice of Emily Blunt and her glorious hair. Check it out in this picture, for example: Long, lush and perfectly waved, it just makes you wonder whether she spent hours in the stylist’s chair or she just happens to be naturally blessed! I suspect that a 2 inch curling iron played a part, however. If you’ve never tried a curling iron with such a large barrel, you have to get one! 2 inch curling irons are the perfect tool to help you achieve big, bouncy waves like Emily’s. I know that I shied away from large-barreled irons for a long time, simply because I wasn’t sure what to do with them. Were they for people with really thick hair? Really, really long hair? How big were these curls going to be?! But then my stylist finally explained that the size of the barrel correlates to the looseness of the curl. Thus, if you want loose waves instead of tight curls, get yourself a big-barreled curling iron! I would be willing to bet that a 2 inch curling iron is Emily’s secret weapon…

The beautiful Penelope Cruz in Nine

Penelope Cruz 2 inch curling ironDid anyone see Penelope Cruz in the movie Nine? Not only does she look amazing, but the woman has talent too. She plays the mistress of a famous Italian director who is in the process of trying to figure out how and when he is going film his movie; production and casting decisions are being made but there isn’t even a script! The director’s complicated relationships with the women in his life are getting in the way and who could blame him when he is faced with the likes of Penelope?

The Spanish beauty has recently been rumored to be engaged to her boyfriend Javier Bardem, who played the compelling character of Anton Chigurh in the Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men, based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy. Regardless, what I love most about Penelope Cruz in this photo is her hair; it has just as much fire and personality as she does. It looks like Penelope’s hair is naturally voluminous…but you can recreate the same effect by following this guidelines:

1) After washing your hair and drying it, put it all up on your head and take it down in parts.

2) For each section of your hair, add some product to it like moose so that when you style it the style will hold.

3) Using a 2 inch curling iron you can get this wavy, curly, big look like Penelope is sporting. Alternate between making loose waves and big curls in some areas. Notice how her hair is almost chaotic to a degree; it has a life of its own but its not out of control.

4) Near the roots you want to use the 2 inch curling to pull your hair back over it and away from your scalp. See how Penelope’s hair doesn’t really have a part to it?

5) Repeat this process using your 2 inch curling iron until all of the hair on head is falling down along your shoulders in lovely waves.

This is a great look for a fun night out on the town!

Straighten Your Hair with Your Curling Iron

jennifer-connely-straight-hairFlat irons have been all the rage lately for creating sleek, straight hairstyles.  But I’ve found that flat irons make my hair look…well…flat.  I have thin, wavy hair that needs as much help as it can get when it comes to volume.  And even though I crave straight hair, I don’t like looking like my hair is plastered to my scalp.  I tried just using volumizing products, like hairsprays, shampoos and mousse, but I still couldn’t get just the look I was trying to achieve.  I want my hair to look like Jennifer Connelly’s in this picture.  Sleek yet full of body.

I asked my stylist and he said the best way to get this look is to use a 2inch curling iron to straighten my hair.  Using a curling iron as a straightener sounded a little counterintuitive to me but I thought I would give it a try…and it worked!  Since the barrel of the two inch curling iron is so large, it lets me add just a touch of volume as I work it down my hair.  I just use it like I would a flat iron - take a section of hair, clamp it at the top near my scalp and then work my way down to the tip.  Now I can get the hairstyle I want anytime of the week.  I love my 2 inch curling iron!

My Favorite Gossip Girl: Jessica Szohr

Jessica Szohr is known for her beautiful wavy hair.

Jessica Szohr is known for her beautiful wavy hair.

Okay, so Blake Lively does have really beautiful hair (see my post below!), but lately I’ve been coveting the ‘do of a different Gossip Girl star: None other than Jessica Szohr, who plays boho chic Vanessa Abrams! Her hair is always full and wavy, which I totally adore. My favorite look of hers so far is this half-up, half-down style that makes the most of those wonderful waves. I would be willing to bet that her stylist used a 2 inch curling iron to create this look. Actually, it’s so easy to do at home that I wouldn’t be surprised if Jessica did it herself! Here’s how: Separate dry hair into one-inch sections and spritz with a lightweight hairspray (this helps set the curl/wave so it stays put all night). Then wrap each section around the barrel of your 2 inch curling iron. When you’ve curled all of your hair, gather the front part of your hair (leaving a few wispy pieces loose in front) and connect them in the back, at the crown of your head, with a pretty barrette or a couple of bobby pins that match your hair color for a subtle effect. Boom! You’re ready to move out of Brooklyn and start dating a Nate Archibald of your very own! Jessica would be proud.

What to Do with a 2 Inch Curling Iron

2 inch curling irons can be used for a variety of hair looks.

2 inch curling irons can be used for a variety of hair looks.

Curling irons come in all different shapes and sizes, and in general you can choose among them based on the size of the barrel. If you want to have tight, springy curls, you should go for one with a small barrel, like a 3/4″ curling iron. On the other hand, if loose, sexy waves are your objective, you would be better off with a curling iron that is 1 1/2″ or more in diameter. Personally, I prefer a 2 inch curling iron, because it helps give me the bombshell/supermodel waves I love! Basically, if you’ve ever wanted to look like you belong in a Victoria’s Secret catalog (from the neck up, at least!) then this is the styling tool for you. As with any curling iron, make sure your hair is totally dry before you curl. (I like to blow dry with the nozzle of the dryer a few inches from my hair, pointing downwards so it seals the cuticle and leaves my hair really shiny.) Then, you should divide your hair into smaller 1 or 2-inch sections and wrap each piece around the barrel of your 2 inch curling iron for no more than 5-7 seconds. When you release the hair, you’ll have a perfect loose wave! This look is great for special occasions or just everyday wear. You won’t believe all the compliments you’ll get!

Creating an Updo with Your 2 Inch Curling Iron

nicole-kidman

We love Nicole Kidman's hair on the red carpet!

This photo of Nicole Kidman looking gorgeous on the red carpet has really inspired me! I love how her hair is in waves yet she also has it pinned up into a loose updo. Sometimes, updos can look uptight or even cliched at a formal event, but by giving her hair some texture and body before pinning it up, Nicole has really turned that image on its head! I think this looks just as sexy as any cascading hairstyle. Here’s how I go about duplicating Nicole’s style for myself: First, I make sure my hair is totally dry. Then, I use my 2 inch curling iron to create great big curls all over my head, dividing my hair into small sections before curling in order to speed the process up. Then, when I’m finished with curling, I gently finger comb through my waves to loosen up the curls a little. Then, without pulling my hair back too tightly, I pin my hair up at the nape of my neck in a loose twist. Use bobby pins and a lightweight hairspray for staying power, and let any loose tendrils fall where they may. This look is so soft and beautiful, and it would work for any party, dance or other formal or semi-formal event! And, best of all, you can do it right at home with a 2 inch curling iron and a few hair pins.

Steal Blake Lively's Beautiful Hair

Blake Lively

How to get full waves like Blake Lively

If I could steal any celebrity’s hair, I think it would be Blake Lively. I absolutely adore her hair! It’s long, blonde, shiny, healthy, and versatile - it looks great up or down, wavy or straight. But my favorite Blake hairstyle of all time is probably the amazing beachy waves she wore to the premiere of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. It looks so pretty, yet so laidback and relaxed! I think it would be perfect for any occasion, from a formal event to a simple dinner-and-a-movie date. Fortunately, it’s easy to imitate if you have long hair and a 2 inch curling iron! Here’s how: First, blow dry hair with a round brush to add body and volume. You don’t want “big” hair, but you do want it to look lush and full. It’s also a good idea to apply a heat protective serum before working with your hot styling tools. Then, take your 2 inch curling iron and wrap your hair around the barrel in sections, holding for a few seconds before you release. After achieving loose waves all over your head, gently tousle your hair with your fingers and apply a shine serum and a lightweight hairspray to finish. If you want to duplicate Blake’s look exactly, make a messy, zig-zag part and grab a few small sections of hair for braids. Two or three should do the trick. I love this look!

Getting Fairy Tale Hair, Like Gisele

gisele

Get beautiful curls like Gisele!

One style that never goes out of style is wavy hair.  We’re not talking about frizzy or naturally wavy hair.  We’re talking about sculpted waves that invoke thoughts of fairy tales and princesses.  Gisele is a perfect example of a modern day princess.  She found her knight in Tom Brady and if you want to be swept away by your Prince Charming, then having beautifully wavy hair to capture his attention is a good way to start!  Too get the princess look, you need a 2 inch curling iron to be your magic wand.

A two inch barrel on a curling iron will give you soft and full waves.  Smaller barrels are designed to give you tight ringlets, which is fine if you are wanting to look like Shirley Temple but if you want a more sophisticated look then you need a larger barrel.  A 2 inch curling iron can also be used to add volume to your hair.  You want your hair to look big enough and strong enough for your Prince to rescue you, if you’re locked away in a tower!  The key is to take one to two inch sections of your hair and curl them with your 2 inch curling iron.  Once you have curls styled all over your hair, spray generously with a strong hold hairspray to keep your waves looking buoyant and sculpted all day long.

Do You Want Beautiful Waves like Miley's?

mileycyrus

Get beautiful long curls like Miley!

Miley Cyrus is a bona fide phenomenon, inspiring tweens everywhere to want to be rock stars.  She also has pretty inspiring hair, for girls and women of all ages.  Her beautiful long locks are usually styled in large waves.  If you want to create a similar hairstyle then you need the right tools to make it work.  The best way to replicate these beautiful waves is by using a two inch curling iron.

Here’s how:

  • First, make sure your hair is completely dry before using your curling iron so that you avoid damaging your hair.  Also apply a thermal spray to protect your hair from the heat.
  • Next remember to style hair in layers and sections. To make sure hair is evenly styled throughout, pin up the top layers of your hair so that you can then divide bottom layers into one to one and a half sections to style at a time.  Once you are done with each layer, you can then let down another layer to be styled in sections.
  • Take the section of the hair you are styling and clamp your two inch curling iron at the top of the section and then glide the curling iron down the hair to smooth it out.  Once the section is smooth you can then wrap the hair upward around the curling to create the curl.
  • Do this all over, curling each section of each layer and finish with a flexible hold hairspray.

Ta-da!  Beautiful waves like Miley Cyrus!

Want Jessica Simpson's Hair?

jessica

We love Jessica Simpson's beach waves!

Say what you want about Jessica Simpson - love her or hate her - she always has great hair.  She can get really done up with extensions and blond highlights.  And she can rock a short hair cut too.  One of my favorite looks is this one where her hair looks naturally wavy and healthy.  I have tried all different ways to get this same look and I found that using a two inch curling iron gives me the best results.  The great thing about a two inch curling iron is that it gives me natural waves that do not look too “done.”  That is exactly the result I need if I am going to replicate Jessica’s look here.  What I do is divide my hair into three layers.  I curl the bottom layer, alternating from one inch to two inch sections to curl.  Then I lower the middle layer and do the same.  I spray hairspray all along the way to make sure the style holds.  Then I do the top layer but instead of curling all the way up the sections, I curl only the ends of the sections, smoothing the hair nearest to the crown of my head.  That way I don’t get too much extra volume on top and still have a natural look.  I always get tons of compliments when I wear my hair like this!

Kate Hudson's golden waves on the Red Carpet!

The larger the barrel, the less defined the curl.  This is an important rule of thumb to remember when choosing your curling iron size.  If you are looking to create tight ringlet curls, a small barrel is what you are looking for, most likely under one inch in diameter.  If you are interested in creating waves and adding volume, then a larger barrel will suit you best.  A two inch curling iron is a great tool for creating soft waves that are romantic and natural looking.  These curling irons are best suited for long hair that is shoulder length or longer in order to create waves.  For shorter hair, a two inch curling iron is great for creating volume since the hair will not actually wrap around the barrel more than once.  Kate Hudson’s hairstyle here is a great example of the laid back and beachy look that you can achieve with a two inch curling iron.  Simply curl hair all over with your curling iron, set with a hairspray and then finger comb the curls loose for a naturally wavy look.  Have fun and experiment with your two inch curling iron to see all the possibilities you can create!

Want Waves Like Vanessa Hudgens?

vanessa-hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens loose beach waves!

Vanessa Hudgens made a big splash at the MTV Movie Awards when she showed up with this loose, sexy hairstyle. Want to get her beachy waves for yourself? It’s not hard when you have a 2-inch curling iron! Unlike curling irons with smaller barrels, which are designed to make tight, spirally curls, your two-inch curling iron is the ideal tool for making big curls and wild waves. Here’s how: Start by blow drying your hair with a round brush to add volume. Make sure your hair is completely dry before beginning your heat styling routine or you could fry your locks! Next, divide hair into smaller sections and wrap them loosely around your 2″ curling iron, holding for a few seconds to allow the curl to set. After your entire head has been curled, it’s time to set the style with a lightweight hairspray for hold. To give this windswept look some extra edginess, scrunch some texturizing spray into your hair and gently run your fingers through your curls to loosen them up. Finish by making an imprecise side part to emulate Vanessa’s nonchalant yet sexy style. Remember, 2″ curling irons are the best styling tool on the market for making big, bombshell curls and sex kitten waves, whatever your hair’s natural length or texture.

Welcome to 2 Inch Curling Iron!

Do you want to capture the retro hairstyles that are so en vogue these days? With the popularity of Mad Men, more and more young stars are stepping out onto the red carpet with their hair perfectly coiffed, as a nod to old Hollywood. The best way to achieve these classic looks is to invest in a 2-inch curling iron. The size of the barrel is ideal for creating soft waves and structured styles.

When using your 2-inch curling iron, separate your hair into one or two inch sections. Start with the bottom layers and wrap the sections of hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Depending on how defined you would like your curl to be, either spray your hair with hair spray as it is wrapped around the barrel or wait to spray once the curl is loose. Continue to wrap your hair in small sections, working your way to the top layers. Once you have curled all your hair, now is the time to smooth into the final style you would like! A 2-inch barrel on your curling iron gives you the flexibility to brush out your hair into loose waves or finger comb into more defined curls. Either way you are sure to have a beautiful hairstyle after all your effort!
